Jerusalem artichoke isn't an artichoke and it isn't from Jerusalem. It's a knobbly root vegetable from the sunflower family, and it's one of nature's richest sources of inulin, a prebiotic fibre that feeds the friendly bacteria living in your gut.
Most people meet Jerusalem artichoke at the dinner table. Viridian's tincture lets you take a measured dose every day without having to roast a panful of them.
What it is
A 50ml glass bottle of organic Jerusalem artichoke tincture, made by Viridian to their usual clean-label, family-run-brand standard. Liquid herbal extract in an alcohol base, with a dropper for easy measured dosing. Soil Association organic. Suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
Why people take it
Gut health is one of the biggest growth areas in supplement use in the UK, and it's not hard to see why. Most modern diets are short on fibre, particularly the prebiotic kind that feeds the good bacteria in the lower gut. Inulin is one of the best-studied prebiotic fibres there is.
Jerusalem artichoke is one of the highest natural sources of inulin you can get. A daily dose of the tincture is a simple way to nudge your prebiotic intake up without overhauling your plate.
Who it suits
- Anyone working on a daily gut routine who wants a tincture rather than a powder or capsule
- People who already eat plenty of plant fibre but want a steady, measurable top-up
- Long-term Viridian customers who prefer the brand's tincture format
- Vegetarians and vegans
If you have IBS, FODMAP sensitivity or significant gut issues, start very low and slow. Inulin can cause bloating in some people when intake jumps too fast. Build up gradually and listen to your body, or speak to a practitioner if you're not sure.
If you're on prescription medication, pregnant or breastfeeding, please check with your GP first. We can't advise on interactions.
Why Viridian's tincture
Viridian's tinctures are organic, alcohol-extracted (so you get the water and fat-soluble actives, not just one or the other), and made in small batches in their UK facility. The label tells you what's in the bottle and nothing else is. No flavourings, no sweeteners, no fillers.
We stock the Viridian tincture range at LSC because there's a real demand for traditional liquid herbal formats from customers who don't want everything in a capsule. Tinctures are also useful if you find capsules hard to take, or if you'd rather adjust the dose drop by drop.
How to take it
The usual guidance is 2.5ml in a little water or juice, twice daily, before food, or as directed by a herbalist or practitioner. 50ml is roughly two weeks at that dose, so it suits intensive short-term routines or daily lower-dose use over a longer period.
The taste is earthy and slightly sweet (inulin has a faintly sugary edge). Dilute it in water and most people get on with it without trouble.
What it pairs with
A proper gut routine usually has more than one moving part. A live probiotic, a varied plant-based diet, and a prebiotic fibre source like Jerusalem artichoke or Prebio Fibre Powder covers most of the ground. Browse the Probiotics & Gut range and the broader Gut Health collection for what pairs well.
