Viridian's Vegan Liquid Vitamin D3 is a kid-friendly, family-friendly drop format of one of the most-recommended winter supplements in the UK. 200iu per drop, lightly orange-flavoured, vegan-sourced. 50ml dropper bottle.
What it is
A liquid vitamin D3 supplement in a vegan format. Most vitamin D3 supplements use lanolin (from sheep's wool) as the source, which means traditional D3 isn't suitable for vegans. Viridian use a plant-sourced (typically lichen-derived) vitamin D3 instead, giving you the bioactive D3 form without the animal source. Lightly orange-flavoured. 200iu per drop. Made in the UK.
Why it works
Vitamin D is one of the few supplements the UK government actively recommends adults take through autumn and winter. The reason is geographic: between October and March, the angle of the sun in the UK isn't strong enough for the skin to make meaningful vitamin D from sunlight. Half the year, every UK adult is essentially running on stored summer D plus whatever's coming in through food and supplements.
Vitamin D contributes to:
- Normal function of the immune system
- Maintenance of normal bones
- Maintenance of normal teeth
- Maintenance of normal muscle function
- Normal absorption and utilisation of calcium and phosphorus
- Normal blood calcium levels
- A role in the process of cell division
The vegan plant-sourced D3 is identical at the molecular level to the lanolin-sourced version. The body uses it the same way. The only difference is the source material, which matters for vegans and for people who prefer plant-based products.
The drop format is useful for children, for anyone who doesn't enjoy capsules, and for older adults where flexible dosing matters.
Who it's for
A solid daily option for vegans and vegetarians, families with children, and anyone who prefers a drop format. The 200iu per drop strength makes it easy to titrate the dose: one drop for younger children, several drops for adults, more if a practitioner has recommended a higher daily amount.
For higher-strength capsule options, see our LSC D3 4000iu or the LSC D3 + K2 for combined D3 and K2 support. For the full vitamin D selection, browse the Vitamins & Minerals range.
What's different about this version
Three things stand out. First, the source. A vegan plant-derived D3 is one of the few options for people who don't want lanolin-sourced D3 (which is the standard in most brands). Second, the format. Drops give flexible dosing and a kid-friendly orange flavour. Third, the brand. Viridian have been making clean vitamin formulas for over 25 years and have a strong reputation for ethical sourcing.
How to use it
Follow the dosing instructions on the label. For most UK adults, a daily top-up through autumn and winter is sensible, with year-round use a reasonable option too given how patchy UK sunshine is even in summer. The 200iu per drop strength is on the lower side, so adults typically take several drops daily to reach a meaningful maintenance dose. Practitioners often recommend higher daily totals (1000iu-4000iu) depending on the individual.
Drop into water, juice, a spoon or directly into the mouth.
Vitamin D contributes to normal function of the immune system and maintenance of normal bones.
If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or giving this to children, follow the age-specific dosing on the label. If you're on prescribed medication, check with your GP before starting.
